Praise the King of Heaven

Praise My Soul the King of Heaven | Monthly Melody

     First let me say, Happy New Year!!  God has brought us to 2021, and I know that He has good things planned for us in this year!  They may not always look like what we expect, but we know His plans work together for our good.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.  Romans 8:28

     Second, let me say, “SURPRISE”!!!!!  We are beginning a new activity here on the blog.  I’m planning, Lord willing, to bring you a new hymn each month.  This challenge is going to be known as the Monthly Melody.

     The goal is to pick out less common hymns.  Most of them will be hymns that I do not know – or at least that I didn’t know before I set out on a hunt for the perfect video for that hymn!  Sometimes I have the tune almost learned by the time I find the right video.  Which leads to another thought.  If you already know some of the hymns that I pick, don’t let that discourage you.  You can take this opportunity to better learn the words to the hymn.

     I chose a video that has the words on the screen so that you can follow along as you begin to learn the song.  As you get more familiar with it, hopefully you can enjoy listening to it and singing along as you go about your daily activities.

     I’m hoping that we can listen to this hymn throughout the month, learning it and soaking up its truth into our lives.

O sing unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord, all the earth.  Sing unto the Lord, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day.  Psalm 96:1-2

     Okay!  Our first Monthly Melody that we are going to learn together is “Praise My Soul the King of Heaven.”  Will you join me in listening to it this month?  Be on the lookout for a follow up post part way through the month where we can talk about what we have gotten out of listening to this song and singing it to the Lord.

Please take a minute to read the words of this lovely hymn and then enjoy the video!

Praise, my soul, the King of Heaven!

Praise, my soul, the King of heaven;
To his feet your tribute bring.
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
Evermore his praises sing.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Praise the everlasting King!

Praise him for his grace and favor
To his people in distress.
Praise him, still the same as ever,
Slow to chide, and swift to bless.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Glorious in his faithfulness!

Fatherlike he tends and spares us;
Well our feeble frame he knows.
In his hand he gently bears us,
Rescues us from all our foes.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Widely yet his mercy flows!

Angels, help us to adore him;
You behold him face to face.
Sun and moon, bow down before him,
Dwellers all in time and space.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Praise with us the God of grace!

     If you plan to join me in learning this Monthly Melody, would you leave a comment letting me know?  Thank you!

In Christ,

Bethany

    1. Thank you so much for commenting, Heather!! I’m so glad you liked the hymn choice and are going to listen to it with me this month. 🙂 I looked it up, and the hymn was published in 1834. Plus, I found some good material to include in the check-in while I was looking, so thank you for your help!

    I may not always keep up, but I will do my best.
