First let me say, Happy New Year!! God has brought us to 2021, and I know that He has good things planned for us in this year! They may not always look like what we expect, but we know His plans work together for our good.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
Second, let me say, “SURPRISE”!!!!! We are beginning a new activity here on the blog. I’m planning, Lord willing, to bring you a new hymn each month. This challenge is going to be known as the Monthly Melody.
The goal is to pick out less common hymns. Most of them will be hymns that I do not know – or at least that I didn’t know before I set out on a hunt for the perfect video for that hymn! Sometimes I have the tune almost learned by the time I find the right video. Which leads to another thought. If you already know some of the hymns that I pick, don’t let that discourage you. You can take this opportunity to better learn the words to the hymn.
I chose a video that has the words on the screen so that you can follow along as you begin to learn the song. As you get more familiar with it, hopefully you can enjoy listening to it and singing along as you go about your daily activities.
I’m hoping that we can listen to this hymn throughout the month, learning it and soaking up its truth into our lives.
O sing unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord, all the earth. Sing unto the Lord, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. Psalm 96:1-2
Okay! Our first Monthly Melody that we are going to learn together is “Praise My Soul the King of Heaven.” Will you join me in listening to it this month? Be on the lookout for a follow up post part way through the month where we can talk about what we have gotten out of listening to this song and singing it to the Lord.
Please take a minute to read the words of this lovely hymn and then enjoy the video!
Praise, my soul, the King of Heaven!
Praise, my soul, the King of heaven;
To his feet your tribute bring.
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
Evermore his praises sing.
Praise the everlasting King!
Praise him for his grace and favor
To his people in distress.
Praise him, still the same as ever,
Slow to chide, and swift to bless.
Glorious in his faithfulness!
Fatherlike he tends and spares us;
Well our feeble frame he knows.
In his hand he gently bears us,
Rescues us from all our foes.
Widely yet his mercy flows!
Angels, help us to adore him;
You behold him face to face.
Sun and moon, bow down before him,
Dwellers all in time and space.
Praise with us the God of grace!
If you plan to join me in learning this Monthly Melody, would you leave a comment letting me know? Thank you!
(Disclaimer: While I enjoyed the video of this particular hymn and wanted to share it with you, this does not mean that I endorse every video on this channel.)
Yes, I would like to learn it! What beautiful words this song has!
Thank you, Bethany!
I’m really happy you are planning to participate, Agape! It will be special knowing that we are all singing the same songs to the Lord even though we are miles apart.
Oh!!! What a wonderful idea! ? Can’t wait to see that hymns you post each month!!! The one you posted for this month is one of my favorites, and already know it somewhat, but I would love to learn the entire song with you, and hopefully memorize it ???
I’m so glad you are participating and that you love the first song, Anna! You’ll have to keep me updated on how it goes memorizing it!! I’m hoping that I’ll be able to memorize at least most of it too.
I’m excited about this new feature on your blog, Bethany!! I can’t wait to learn this pretty hymn better!
Great! That’s so nice to hear that you are excited. I enjoyed singing it with you this morning!
Count me in!!
I’m so glad you’re going to do it, Mom! It will be fun singing this song together.
What a wonderful hymn you picked out for this month! What year was it published? I am going to listen to it and learn it! The words are so lovely!
Thank you so much for commenting, Heather!! I’m so glad you liked the hymn choice and are going to listen to it with me this month. 🙂 I looked it up, and the hymn was published in 1834. Plus, I found some good material to include in the check-in while I was looking, so thank you for your help!
I love the words to this hymn!
I may not always keep up, but I will do my best.
I may need to get my mom’s permission to watch them, but maybe our family could add them to our music playlists on YouTube! We love listening to fun or spiritually uplifting music while we are cleaning or just to listen! <3
That would be nice if you could listen as a family, Grace! 🙂 We’ve been singing along with the video together as a family during devotions sometimes. It’s really nice working on the song together!
I’m in!!!!!!! LOVE discovering new hymns. Thank you so much for encouraging us in this, Bethany!!
I’m SO glad to have you join, Rachel! This hymn has already been a blessing to me, and I hope it will be a blessing to you too!! Stay tuned for a check-in post coming soon, Lord willing. 🙂
